Delete your account
You can permanently delete your Zemra account at any time. Below are the two ways to do it and exactly what happens to your data.
Option 1 — Delete in the app
- Open Zemra and sign in.
- Go to the Profile tab (bottom-right).
- Tap the Settings icon at the top of the Profile screen.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
- Confirm the prompt. Your account and data are deleted immediately.
Option 2 — Request by email
If you have uninstalled the app, can't sign in, or simply prefer email, send a message from the email address tied to your Zemra account to hello@zemraapp.com with the subject “Delete my Zemra account”. We will process the request and confirm by reply within 7 days.
What gets deleted
Deletion is immediate and irreversible. The following are permanently removed from Zemra's servers:
- Your account (email, sign-in identity, encrypted password)
- Profile data — display name, photos, date of birth, gender, orientation, bio, prompts, top picks, preferences
- Interests in programs (films and plays you marked)
- Likes you sent and likes you received
- Favourite venues
- Reviews and review replies you wrote
- Chat messages you sent
- End-to-end encryption keys associated with your account
- Push-notification device tokens
- Reports and blocks you created
- Subscription record held by Zemra (see note below)
What is retained
- An “archived chat” snapshot in the inbox of each person you previously chatted with, containing only your display name and profile photo as they were at the time of deletion. This is shown to those users with the label “This user deleted their account.” so the conversation doesn't silently vanish from their UI. The underlying messages are deleted.
- Aggregated, non-identifiable analytics already accumulated about general app usage (e.g. total daily active users on a given date). These contain no personal identifier and cannot be linked back to you.
- Records we are required by law to keep, such as transaction records for tax or anti-fraud purposes, are retained for the period required by the applicable law (typically 5 years in Greece).
Delete some of your data
You don't have to delete your whole account to remove specific information. The following can be edited or removed at any time directly in the app:
- Profile information (display name, bio, date of birth, gender, orientation, prompts, top picks, genre preferences) — Profile → Edit profile
- Profile photos — Profile → Edit profile → remove photo
- Interests in programs — tap the heart again on any program you previously marked as interested
- Likes you sent — visible from your own profile; individual likes can be withdrawn
- Likes you received — dismiss any item from the Likes tab to remove it from your inbox
- Reviews you wrote — Profile → My reviews → delete
- Favourite venues — tap the bookmark on any venue you previously favourited to remove it
About chat history
Chat messages are not individually deletable while your account is active. If you unmatch someone, the conversation is archived (hidden from both inboxes) but the underlying messages remain on Zemra's servers. This is an intentional safety measure: chat history must be available to our moderation team in case a report is made — for example if someone alleges harassment, threats, or off-platform misconduct that started in a Zemra conversation. Chat messages are permanently deleted only when you delete your account (see above).
Requesting deletion of something else
If the item you want to remove isn't covered above, write to hello@zemraapp.com describing what you'd like deleted. We will respond within 7 days. Note that requests to delete chat history will only be actioned in exceptional cases (e.g. legal request) — see the section above.
Subscriptions
If you have an active Zemra subscription purchased through Google Play or the Apple App Store, deleting your Zemra account does not automatically cancel that subscription, because it is managed by Google or Apple, not by Zemra. To stop being charged, cancel the subscription in your store account before deleting your Zemra account, or immediately after, via Google Play subscriptions or your Apple ID subscription settings.
